Description
The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) is now accepting letters of interest for NBCC Minority Fellowship Program Advisory Council (MFPAC) member positions to begin August 1, 2015. The Advisory Council consists of five members, including four doctoral-level National Certified Counselors and one consumer representative, who promote and support the mission of the NBCC MFP. Advisory Council members are elected to serve a one-year term and may be elected for a second one-year term. Some domestic travel is necessary.
The NBCC MFP is seeking candidates who demonstrate expertise and experience providing mental health and substance abuse services to minority populations. The consumer representative is a past consumer of mental health counseling services with knowledge of working with underserved populations. The MFPAC meets three times annually to conduct business, twice through virtual means and once face to face. All travel expenses are reimbursed. MFPAC members engage in an online training program prior to beginning their term.
The MFPAC determines the selection criteria for the fellowships, selects Fellows from among the finalists, and advises staff on policies and procedures for administering the program. The MFPAC also monitors Fellows to determine compliance with their individual fellowship plans. Additionally, the MFPAC develops and provides training for Fellows and all NCCs through webinars and panel discussions. NBCC Foundation staff members assist with the production and planning of all training events.
Interested NCCs in good standing should submit a résumé or curriculum vitae and letter of interest to be considered for a position. Letters of interest should describe experience working with ethnic, racial or religious minorities or LGBTQ individuals in a variety of settings. Cultural competency and strong skills in networking, public relations, presentation, communication, goal-setting and task-management are also required. Letters should also describe an understanding of the NBCC MFP and how applicants will contribute to the leadership of the program. Candidates must have strong technological skills, including the ability to use virtual teleconferencing software, and must be able to commit the necessary time to MFPAC responsibilities.
